What are Sitemaps, Robots and Tags?

  • Sitemaps :
Sitemaps are a list of all the URLs or pages which are present in the website. It helps crawlers by giving access to all pages of the website. This list is put in a format that Google wants a user to put, which is .xml format, which is then uploaded on the server of your website. Whenever a crawler comes, xml will access this and ensure that all the sites and the pages on your website has been crawled by them.

  • Robot :
The next file which you have to put it in your server is Robots.txt. It tells the bot about the pages which should not be accessed. So the robots can actually and potentially stop the bots from accessing the website. This has been done to keep the delicate information of the website private like employee data. Then you can ban the robots using Robots.txt files. There are many robots.txt and sitemaps.xml generators which are easily available on Google. Then get the file with a .txt extension and upload the file on the server of your website.

  • Meta Tags :
The most important things which you can do as an SEO are - you have to write titles of every page within 60 characters, you have to write descriptions of every page within 160 characters, the third thing is Meta Keywords which are just phrases about what that page is all about and every page should have unique page titles, page descriptions and meta tags on your website.

  • Alt Tags :
Alt tag is a tag which a user have to put on all images present on the website as Google's crawlers look at the alt tags to understand what that image is all about and to classify it properly and when a user wants an image for some purpose then these same classifications are used for searching the images. It is the alt tag that appears when there is slow internet connection and the image is not downloading properly, etc. So alt tag has a very important role to play and a user have to make sure that he/she has tagged all the images by the help of his/her developer.
