Hi Readers!
Welcome back. In this blog, I will tell you about :
- Link Technicalities
- Value of a Link
- No Follow Tag
It's not true that all the links that point towards your website are equal and desirable, some of them are unequal as well as undesirable. Therefore, the first thing that you need to make sure is that the Anchor text that you use to build links is relevant. Anchor text is a text which looks like a hyperlinked word, behind the text a link is stored which sends the user to a website by clicking on it. While building a link, you have to make sure that the words which are hyperlinked are all relevant to your business.
The content on which you are generating backlinks like an article in which you have been given a backlink should be relevant to your business. It should not happen that if the website is all about travel and website owner is writing about a different topic which is irrelevant. Google looks at all these little things.
The value of a link is determined by various factors :
(i) Age : Suddenly, if a user starts getting a lot of backlinks, then Google looks at that website very suspiciously than if you are building the links slowly or getting the links from same website all the time.
(ii) Geo Location : If a user has a business based in India, and he gets a backlink from outside India like US then it won't help the website. The user will only get benefited if the links which he/she is getting is within the Indian territory.
(iii) Page Value : The pages from which you are getting a link should be of a decent value in context of it's page rank. As I have told you in my previous blogs "higher the page rank, higher the worthiness of a website".
(iv) Text Relevance : The text which a user has written in his/her website and the text of the website which is giving backlinks should be relevant to the business of the user.
No Follow Tags
Sometimes, specially on blogs, you see that there are a lot comments which are made, and people or the visitors start leaving those links, the website owners can mark those links as No Follow links.
The No Follow Tag is as follows :
<meta name = "robots" content = "nofollow">
So, if you have marked a certain link as a No Follow link, Google doesn't looks at that link and discounts those links. Moreover, it is a way for the website to say that "I don't trust this link" as someone else has commented and left their links on my website. So, this is a guard to your website from comment spammers who are the people which comment and leave their link.
You can also use No Follow tag to show paid links. For example, if you are running an advertisement on a third party website, let's assume you are running an advertisement on TimesofIndia.com and you are driving traffic from there then TimesofIndia.com should mark your link as NO Follow link because they are paid links. Google doesn't likes that paid links are masquerading as genuine non-paid organic links and they penalize it very heavily.
This tag is also used to Crawl Prioritization, so once a user has mentioned a link as No Follow then Google doesn't crawl them at that point of time. Google may crawl the same link or website if it gets a follow link from some other website. So, these are the things a user should always keep in mind while building a link.
Hope you are liking the blogs, see you until next time!
