Email Marketing |
Email Marketing is the act of sending a commercial message, typically to a group of people, using email. In it's broadcast sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing - Wikipedia
We need a specific email marketing platform as most of the email marketing is done in bulk. Email marketers sends out thousands/lakhs of emails per day, so you need a tool that can handle all these kinds of bulk emails and you also need analytics that how many people saw or read or clicked on the link in that email, etc.
Importance of Email Marketing
(i) Frequency of the emails are very high, people go through their emails multiple times a day.
(ii) The sender has full control of the message he/she sends like content on the email, time of sending, etc.
(iii) With all these marketing platforms becoming cheaper, now marketers are seeing better return of investment. A lot of studies has told us that the ROI generated from email marketing is better than any other digital marketing channel.
(iv) You can deliver a targeted message, you can create segment from your email list and send out a specific message to that segment.
(v) You can send emails across the world sitting at your place.
(vi) You can personalize the email experience by adding name, salutation, etc.
(vii) You can do a very sophisticated segmentation, like if customers are new to your business then you can send them a different kind of email, if your customers have decided to buy your product then you can send them different kind of emails, etc.
Email Marketing in Numbers
(I) There are 3.7 billion email accounts and 250 billion emails are send out every day.
(II) 86% of professionals have named email has their favorite mode of communication.
(III) 47% of the emails are checked on mobile devices so whatever mailers that you create should be compatible and user friendly to the mobile devices.
(IV) An average office worker receives 121 emails and sends 40 emails per day, so the emails that you are sending should stand out.
(V) Most importantly 50% of the emails are marked as spam by the service providers.
Steps in Email Marketing
The first step is to acquire a database of email ids by getting the user to opt into your database. This happens when you are showing a form whenever a user is visiting your website or social media pages and ask them whether they want to receive the mailers from you or not. This is what Seth (marketing guru of current generation) called "Permission Marketing".
The second step is to segment the database into different list - you can segment them by age, gender, location, stage of the customer and you can also acquire them by marketing channels like paid marketing, SEO, social media, etc. So, you can divide the mailers into these lists and make a personalized experience/customers for the customers.
Then you have to sign for an email service provider like Mailchimp, Benchmark Email, Amazon Service Provider, etc.
Then you have to create campaigns, write emails, select your list and then send out the email.
See you until next time:)
